About Karen Lawrence
I have been working as a relationship and couples therapist for over 20 years and specialising in sex and pornography addiction for 7 years. I am trained and qualified through Relate holding a Relate Certificate in Couples Counselling. I have trained with Thaddeus Birchard, ATSAC, Association for the Treatment of Sex Addiction and Compulsivity, London and Eion Stephens, PCI, Personal Counselling Institute, Dublin. I am currently the only therapist in Northern Ireland who holds both Professional Certificates in Sex Addiction from London and Dublin.
As an MBCAP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor, I adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, 2013. I am also a member of ATSAC and can be found at www.atsac.co.uk.
I provide supervision for managers and directors of counselling services as well as couples and individual counsellors within the helping professions. I have an Advanced Diploma in Supervision (Counselling and Psychotherapy) through the Personal Counselling Institute, Dublin.
I have acted as a consultant and trainer to Belfast CRUSE supervisors, volunteers and their bereavement support services.
I have also acted as a trainer for both trainee and post qualified counsellors and supervisors of Relateni.
Qualifications
I attained an honours degree in Communication Studies, June 2000 and a Masters of Social Work in July 2003.
I am qualified as a Family Counsellor having acquired a postgraduate Diploma in Systemic Practice.
